PRESENCE OF CHE GUEVARA IN SURINAME.
August 4, 1961.
Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, (El Che) on August 4, 1961 made a stopover landing at Zanderij airport. Che was on his way to the conference in Montevideo, Uruguay of the Inter-American Economic and Social. His presence for some hours in Suriname at the international airport in Zanderij, was registered in several press releases , and photos, those are in the National Archive of Suriname and were granted by Archive’s s officers to the Cuban ambassador in Suriname, Andres González Garrido.
In his trip to Montevideo, Uruguay, to participate in the meeting of the Inter-American Economic and Social Council, Che and accompanied delegation, stopped to refuel the aircraft, of Cubana Airlines, where they travelled. The Surinamese authorities offered attention to him and took measures for their security, during their stay at Zanderij airport, 50 kilometers from Paramaribo, capital of Suriname
